Approximately 42,300 owners of Volkswagen Passat, Golf, Tiguan and Arteons vehicles worldwide will be announced in connection with this campaign.
The Volkswagen Audi brand has to call 24,400 vehicles, while Seat and Skoda are also affected.
There is a risk of fire in vehicles that connect a conventional combustion engine to an electric motor and are charged through a socket due to an insufficiently insulated high voltage battery, the spokesman added.
The German daily Bild quoted the KBA regulator as saying that “improper attachment of the engine cover can lead to contact with hot parts and later to fire”, adding that 16 such cases have been reported in Germany.
The recall affects VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda brands, Bild said.
