Roman Abramovici no longer has access to his goods from Jersey Island. $ 7 billion in assets have been frozen

Abramovich is among several Russian billionaires added last month to the list of people sanctioned by Britain and the European Union over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and in the meantime governments have begun taking steps to seize Russian billionaire yachts and other assets.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, the local government of the island of Jersey announced that on April 12, the royal court imposed a freezing order on assets worth more than seven billion dollars that are suspected of having related to Roman Abramovici and which are either located in Jersey or are owned by entities incorporated in Jersey. Jersey police also searched a number of locations that are suspected of being linked to Abramovich’s business.

The 54-year-old oligarch has apparently kept his distance from the Kremlin since Vladimir Putin came to power. Abramovich did business mainly in the metallurgical sector after the break-up of the USSR. Forbes magazine currently estimates that his fortune is over $ 14 billion.

Jersey is the largest and best known of the English Channel Islands. Located just 14 miles from France, Jersey is based in the United Kingdom for defense purposes but is not part of the United Kingdom or the European Union.
