Nokia is officially suspending its activities in Russia

“It was clear to Nokia from the first days of the invasion of Ukraine that it would not be possible to continue our presence in Russia,” the Finnish telecommunications company said in a press release on Tuesday.

Nokia said its main priority remains the safety and well-being of its employees.

“For humanitarian reasons, Western governments have expressed concern about the risk of critical infrastructure in Russia’s telecommunications networks failing,” the statement said.

“They also stressed the importance of ensuring the continuous flow of information and access to the Internet, which offers external perspectives to the Russian people,” the statement said.

Nokia also said it did not expect the decision to have an impact on its financial outlook and that Russia accounted for less than 2% of its net sales in 2021.

The announcement follows the decision of the Swedish telecommunications company Ericsson on Monday, to suspend its activity in Russia for an indefinite period.
