Ukraine has lost about 30-40% of its metallurgical capacity due to the war with Russia. This was announced by Metinvest CEO Yuri Ryzhenkov on Ukraine 24.

“The Mariupol plants account for more than a third of Ukraine’s steel production. Today, Ukraine has lost about 30-40% of its metallurgical capacity,” said Metinvest CEO.

Ryzhenkov stressed that the Mariupol plants would certainly be rebuilt after Russian troops left Ukraine.

“I have no doubt that their work will be resumed, but for that the city must remain Ukrainian,” Ryzhenkov said.

The head of the company stressed that the factories can only operate in a free, Ukrainian city, Mariupol.

“This is our position, we have always worked exclusively under Ukrainian law, in the Ukrainian legal and fiscal field. For the factories to operate, there must be Ukrainian sovereignty,” said the company’s CEO.

According to him, both the city and two metallurgical plants are now under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the defenders of the city of Mariupol.
