It is the second lowest level of new car registrations in the UK in May 1992, with component shortages continuing to affect new purchases and fulfillment of existing orders, SMMT said.

In May, Dacia sold 2,237 vehicles on the British market, up 58.20% compared to the same period in 2021, when it registered 1,414 units, informs Agerpres.

At the same time, Vauxhall Corsa, Ford Puma, Ford Kuga, Volkswagen Golf and MINI are among the best-selling models in May.

The market share of electric vehicles stood at 12.4% in May (from 8.4% in the same period in 2021), while for petrol vehicles it fell to 45.6% and for diesel vehicles to 6 ,1%. From 2030, sales of new petrol and diesel cars will be banned in the UK.

“It has been a difficult new month for the car market, the industry continues to be affected by the global shortage of components, but the increase in sales of electric vehicles is good news. Acceleration of infrastructure investment is needed to cope with this growth. The government must continue to support the network of charging points for electric vehicles, “said SMMT CEO Mike Hawes.
