Chancellor Scholz says Germany will stop importing Russian oil by the end of the year

Asked if the refinery’s nationalization was an option, Scholz replied: “We will have to decide at the end of our talks which method will be adopted and I think it will be the right one,” according to Agerpres.

“For the time being, it is important to find a solution to save jobs in Leuna and Schwedt,” Scholz told reporters in Brussels after the summit at which EU leaders agreed to a 90% reduction in oil imports from Russia by the end of the year, as well as other sanctions, including the removal of Russia’s largest bank, Sberbank, from the SWIFT system to punish Moscow for its intervention in Ukraine.
