Brazil could soon increase wheat production to 23 million tonnes, which will allow it to fully cover domestic consumption of 12 million tonnes. This was announced on Monday by Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, speaking at the opening of an agricultural exhibition.
“Today we produce 7 million tons of wheat. We need 12 [milioane de tone]. <...> We will soon be able to produce 23 million tonnes of wheat, “he said, adding that the relevant plan has been implemented by specialists. Bolsonaro also criticized the initiatives aimed at expanding the land area of Indian reservations, as he believes that this hinders the country’s economic development.
